Portrait of Emil Bruno Keller

The Kellerdoscope

A charcoal sketch by Rolf Keller, showing his father Emil Bruno Keller (1863 – 1923). Under the signature, there is a date “27. April 19”, so this sketch is from 1919. Some traces of a preparatory pencil drawing are visible that where not followed in the final drawing.

Emil Bruno Keller was a business man. Once, probably as a young man, he emigrated to the United States and opened a “Coffee Lunch Room” in New York. Here is his business cards documenting this episode.

However, for reasons I don’t know, he later returned to Germany. He married in 1896, so he probably returned before this time.

So that is why I am not an American. 😉
